About the cabinet

The HTTP Cabinet of Curiosities is one more stickybit collection made of lots of little pages. The HTML Herbarium presses markup elements; the Shell Reliquary keeps the symbols of history expansion; this cabinet displays the status codes the protocol registers and almost never returns — the pre-scientific museum where the useful, the dead and the absurd share a shelf.

The 28 curiosities were checked against RFC 9110, each code's specific RFC and the IANA status code registry, which is the source pointed to on each label. The rarity classification is the curators' opinion.

Everything here is generated by gen_gabinete.py, a Python script a few hundred lines long, in the same spirit as Jim Nielsen's Lots of Little HTML Pages: every state is a page, every page is a file, and not a byte of JavaScript is served.
