About the belfry

The Signal Belfry is the third stickybit collection made of lots of little pages. The HTML Herbarium presses markup elements; The Shell Reliquary keeps the symbols of history expansion; this one hangs the POSIX signals — bells in the strict sense: old, of tested bronze, rung by the kernel since the teletype era.

The 26 bells were checked against signal(7) at man7.org and the POSIX specification, which are the sources pointed to on each label — along with the default action and the number on Linux x86-64, since numbers vary across architectures. The rarity classification is the curators' opinion.

Everything here is generated by gen_campanario.py, a Python script a few hundred lines long, in the same spirit as Jim Nielsen's Lots of Little HTML Pages: every state is a page, every page is a file, and not a byte of JavaScript is served.
