About this collection
About the chamber
Who does the weighing, how the site is put together, and where the sister collections live.
The CSS Chamber of Measures is the third stickybit collection made of lots of little pages. The HTML Herbarium presses markup elements; the Shell Reliquary keeps the symbols of history expansion; this chamber weighs the units of measure that CSS has certified — from the width of the zero to the Japanese quarter millimeter.
The 28 units were checked against the CSS Values and Units standard and MDN, the sources pointed to on each one's certificate. Whenever the physics of the page allows, the example is a live demonstration in pure CSS, measured with the unit itself. The rarity classification is the curators' opinion.
Everything here is generated by gen_camara.py, a Python script a few hundred lines long, in the same spirit as Jim Nielsen's Lots of Little HTML Pages: every state is a page, every page is a file, and not a byte of JavaScript is served.
